World-class American cellist Yo-Yo Ma was a child prodigy, performing from the age of four and a half. Today, he is renowned as one of the world's most prestigious classical players, and is a prolific soloist and recording artist, having recorded over ninety albums to date and performed with a host of celebrated international orchestras. Ma is also a highly awarded artist, having won eighteen Grammy Awards to date, as well as being awarded the National Medal of Arts in 2001, Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2011, and the Polar Music Prize in 2012.
