His playing style is often marked as eclectic and versatile. Aside from playing standard classical music, he has dabbled into American bluegrass, traditional Chinese music, Argentinian tango, Brazilian music, and some contemporary collaborations with the likes of jazz/ blues artist Bobby McFerrin.
