Paul Simon is arguably one of the most influential artists of his time. His successful career as part of the folk duo Simon & Garfunkel, formed in 1964 with musical partner Art Garfunkel, included the unforgettable No. 1 on the U.S. singles charts; "The Sound of Silence", "Mrs. Robinson", and "Bridge over Troubled Water". As they split in the height of their career in the 1970's, it only seemed right for Paul Simon to embark on his own mission as a solo artist. Next he would record three highly acclaimed albums over the next five years.
After his travels to South Africa, he brought back a sound that would redefine music history. The album Graceland featured an eclectic mixture of musical styles, including pop, rock, a cappella, zydeco, isicathamiya, and mbaqanga. This world influenced record won a Grammy Award for Album of the Year and sold over 16 million copies worldwide!
